College Football Contest Records The Greenbears began having college contests as a way to increase interest in college games, by giving the members a few teams to root for in games that they might not have been interested in otherwise. In 1995, we began simply picking games against an arbitrary point spread, in advance for the entire season, including the option to change picks in mid-season. Previously, we placed schools in groups of four to seven somewhat equal teams, and then created six groups (usually). Each member picked one school from each group, giving him six teams to root for throughout the season. Sometimes teams were weighted, to encourage members to pick differing sets of teams. Each method has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Commissioner has spoken to many other sports fans around the country, and some have reported holding similar contests. So, it seems that our idea is not original or unique, but is interesting nevertheless. To read the honor roll of champions for every year, go to the College Football Winners Page.
