GFL Football Champions The first full-season fantasy sports league played by the Greenbears was in pro football. Unlike the baseball and pro basketball Late Night Leagues, the pro football league has not had a repeat winner since 1992. However, Brian and Lonnie have been the most successful owners over the last five years, with three first place finishes and four second places between them. Changes have been common in the pro football league. In 1995, head-to-head play and divisions were instituted in football for the first time. In 1996, the League Commissioner (Brian) turned over the job of Football Commissioner to Lonnie, who did an outstanding job with stats and reports that season. When the league became known as the Greenbears Football League in 1997, Brian again became the Commissioner; and the statkeeping was turned over to Sandbox (SportsSim), who had a free fantasy football contest linked to the CNNSI website. In 1998, FSPI provided us with stats and software, bringing a new level of excellence to the stat reports. In 1999, we returned to the convenience of an online league with Sandbox doing our stats, but we were unhappy with their performance. We went to Yahoo as our online stat provider in 2000. To read the complete standings for every year, go to the Pro Football Records Page.
Here's the honor roll of champions: Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Second Place -- Indy Steel Curtain, Lonnie S.
